The characteristics of the master pieces made on paper, will
depend on the combination of materials involved in the
fabrication of the paper, as well as the techniques used to
make the piece itself; whether we are talking about a
lithograph, a watercolor, an engraved print or an
illustration, etc. If the base has cellulose, similar
characteristics will be found. Paper possible damage may be
listed as follows; deformations due to humidity, torn,
missing parts, color degradation because of light exposition
or chemical reactions such as damage caused by time,
Xilofagos problems, mold,
etc.
Different techniques are used, from fumigation, whiten the
paper, neutralizing acids, Air-drying, ink treatments, humid
cleaning, compressing, pressing, etc.
An analysis of the document or paper is made and according
to the results the procedure to rescue it will be selected.
Due to the fact that the paper is so fragile, the length of
time to achieve positive results is long. We require enough
time to allow the procedures accomplish their goal. Each
step needs time to be completed. Each chemical reaction must
be monitored, so the next procedure within the process may
be chosen accordingly.
Artec keeps in touch with experts in paper restoration or
conservation. We work with them either in the experts´
workshop or in our own specialized laboratory. |
